About the project

Project Aims

The AUTISMFIT project aims to promote mental and physical health and well-being of youth with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) by using digital innovation (e.g. VR games) to support young people to acquire healthy habits such as exercise; dietary habits and nutritious health are also priorities of AUTISMFIT. Training and equipping youth workers with skills and practices for promoting healthy habits in youth with ASD and better equipping both parents and families of youth with ASD to be active participants in their lives is another of the project’s goals.

Background

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a “neurological and developmental disorder” which affect several aspects of a person’s way of operation. It is seen in 1 out of 100 people (1%), with youth aged 13-18 being at a higher risk of experiencing poor mental and physical health as well as anxiety and depression.

It is one of the European Union’s goals to create a society where youth with ASD, a chronically marginalised group, feel included and supported, and emphasise that their quality of life is just as important in all aspects.

Inclusivity, empowerment, and engagement are the main objectives of this project and will be met through the use of digital transformation, trainings, and programmes, with an ultimate goal of educating and exposing youth workers and parents to support their children’s mental and physical wellbeing.
